NBA Basketball...The King Goes For 55!!!!

It was just one of those nights for LeBron James. He was unconscious. Going into the half with his Cavs down 6 the Milwaukee Bucks, LBJ already had 25. Then, he went off for 16 points in the first three minutes of the third, turning a 6-point deficit into an 8-point lead. He was so hot, he just pulled up and drained with a hand in his face from about 28 feet like it was nothing. Every defender Milwaukee threw at him, including Richard Jefferson, got torched. In the end, he finished with 55 points, 9 dimes, and 5 boards. In addition, he was 16-29 from the field, 15-22 from the free throw line, and da boy hit 8 treys. According to James, he "just got in the zone". That simple. Damn....By the way, the Cavs won 111-103.

Lakers, Hornets Go At It!!!

The Lakers/Hornets showdown in L.A. was one of the best games of the season so far. Playoff-like atmosphere, overtime, physical, the whole nine. The two teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter, with each team getting stellar performances from several players. For the Hornets, CP3 was CP3 - 21 points, 16 assists, 5 boards, and 4 steals. Rasual Butler led N.O. with 31. David West put in 16 and 16, and James Posey showed again why he's one of the most coveted players in the League. Posey came off the bench with 17, knocking down huge three's late in the fourth quarter, and talking hella shit.

Likewise, the Lakers got outstanding contributions from many of their players, including KB24, who had 39, 5, and 5, Paul Gasol, who went for 20 and 12, and, L.O., who scored 12 points, and grabbed 17 boards. Derek Fisher also stepped up in the clutch as usual, knocking down a game-tying three, and drawing a charge against Chris Paul - a play that saved the game for L.A..

While both teams played great, one of them, unfortunately, had to lose - New Orleans. After Chris Paul fouled out, the Lakers eventually eked out a W, 115-111. After tonight, I'm convinced both teams may reemerge as the the two best teams in the West, as they did last year. L.A., since Bynum's departure, is 8-1, and Lamar Odom aka The Goods, is the reason. In the last 6 games, Odom's averaging 16.3 rebounds. For, N.O. the adversity as a result of the near-loss of Tyson Chandler may have been the spark the Hornets needed. They banged Orlando Wednesday, 117-85, and damn-near beat L.A. Friday night. All without Chandler. Once he gets back, which should be sometime next week, and gradually makes it bak to 100%, the Hornets will be poised to make a run.

More Deadly Chicago Gun Violence....

Three teenagers — including a 13-year-old — were killed this afternoon in a shooting on the Southeast Side.

The 13-year-old, Johnny Edwards, was remembered Friday evening by family and neighbors as a helpful boy who played in after-school sports programs and loved math and science.

“He was humble,’’ his uncle John Johnson said. “He showed respect. He helped his brothers, his sisters and cousins with their homework. He liked to help people.’’

Johnny was a seventh grader at Arnold Mireles Academy. He would have turned 14 on Monday.

The two other teens, boys aged 15 and 17, attended school at Bowen High School, school officials said.

Emergency personnel first responded to the shooting at 3 p.m. in an alley along 87th Street between Escanaba and Exchange, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.

But witnesses said the three victims were shot in different locations: one just south of 87th on Exchange, a second at 87th and Escanaba and a third a few doors down from there.

Supt. Jody Weis, who was on the scene after the shootings, said the teens were attacked by more than one shooter.

“It appears they were attacked by several individuals, one of which had an assault rifle,” Weis said at a news conference.

Johnny Edwards was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A witness, who asked not to be named, said two young men ran past him headed east on 87th near Commercial and started shooting. One of the men had what appeared to be an automatic weapon. The witness saw two of the teens being shot. The shooters then ran north through an alley.

The witness said the area is plagued by gang violence.

Cameras from the neighborhood were being reviewed by detectives, and specialized department teams were sent to the neighborhood in the wake of the shootings.

The shootings occurred less than a block from Immaculate Conception School at 8739 South Exchange. The elementary school began dismissing students at 2:45 p.m.

A secretary from the school said they heard gunshots and called police. School officials kept the students who were still on school grounds inside the building.

Oakland DB Signs HUGE Deal...

Reaction was swift and ugly Thursday to the deals the Oakland Raiders gave CB Nnamdi Asomugha and punter Shane Lechler over the past two days.

"How many different ways can you say, 'What were they thinking?' " a team executive who declined to be identified said after being told the terms of Asomugha's three-year, $45 millions contract.

"Insanity, stupidity, whatever you want to attach to it. Yeah, the kid is the best cornerback in the league. They paid for quality. I'll give them that. But that deal wrecks the league. Absolutely wrecks it. … I'm sure Al doesn't care, but it's deals like that that change the league for the worse."

Asomugha (pictured) is guaranteed $28.5 million over the first two years of the deal and the Raiders will have to decide by the fifth day of the league year in 2011 whether to pick up the third season of the deal. If they do, the final year is guaranteed. If not, Asomugha can't be franchised (nor can the Raiders franchise him even if he plays out all three years on the contract), making him an unrestricted free agent at either age 29 or 30. Combined with the $9.7 million Asomugha made last season as a franchise player for Oakland, he stands to make approximately $55 million in a four-year stretch.

"And still hit free agency at the right time for one more big contract, assuming he's healthy," a second team executive said, shaking his head.

The fear among the executives is that the Asomugha deal will have a ripple effect on the rest of the league. Specifically, Tennessee DT Albert Haynesworth is likely to get a contract that exceeds previous deals for defensive linemen such as Jared Allen and Dwight Freeney.

"You can argue that Haynesworth is a defensive tackle or that he's a bad guy," said a third team executive. "But if a cornerback gets what the Raiders just paid, a defensive tackle like Haynesworth is going to get a serious pay day as well."

Similarly, Lechler's deal more than doubled the previous high average for a punter. His four-year, $16 million deal includes $9 million guaranteed, according to sources close to the negotiations. The $4 million average per season exceeds the previous high of $1.8 million.

While all of this may be true, look at what they failed to tell you:

  • 3 season, 2 time all-pro, and 1 Pro Bowl selection.
  • His rookie season, 2006 - 50 tackles, 8 Ints. (teid for 2nd most in the league)
Why you've probably never heard of him...Since then, NO ONE dares throw his way:
  • 2007 Season - Thrown at: 31 times. Completions allowed: 10.
  • 2008 Season - Thrown at: 27 times. Completions allowed: 8.
  • Only TWO receiver caught more than one pass against him in 2008. Randy Moss (3 rec., 47 yards), and Tony Gonzalez (2 rec., 34 yards).
Homie is a problem.

Where did the Jadakiss' trademark laugh come from???

I started doing that on my last album, I think… it’s a tension-breaker, like, when I’m about to perform, about to start laying the verses, just to clear my ears, and clear my head and my throat, and that’s what I started usin’ it for.  Then my engineer, Choch, left it, and a couple people started liking it, so I just started makin’ it before I came in on a song, I’d just give you that so you knew I was comin’.  And these old ladies come up to me, little kids, like, “You’re that guy that goes ‘A-heh!’”  They can’t do it, but they make all kinds of sounds – it’s just crazy!

NBA Basketball...

BREAKING NEWS!!! AMARE OUT AT LEAST TWO MONTHS!!!

A day after deciding to let the trade deadline pass without making a major money-saving move, the inactivity seemingly has turned incredibly costly for the Phoenix Suns.

The beleaguered Suns announced Friday that Amare Stoudemire was forced to undergo eye surgery to repair a partially detached retina suffered in a Wednesday night rout of the Los Angeles Clippers. It is Stoudemire's second eye injury since October and the All-Star forward could miss the rest of the regular season.

Stoudemire's return to physical activity has been estimated at eight weeks by the Suns. He underwent surgery Friday morning, although the club said in a statement that "recovery varies on a case-by-case basis."

The Suns were just starting to feel a sense of optimism about salvaging something from this painful season after replacing coach Terry Porter with Alvin Gentry on Monday, ringing up 282 points in back-to-back victories over the Clippers and getting the go-ahead Thursday from owner Robert Sarver to keep hold of Stoudemire and Shaquille O'Neal after shopping both this month in an attempt to significantly reduce Sarver's payroll.

Full story here.

Man...this is huge blow for Phoenix, plain and simple.

NBA Transactions...

As usual, teams got us all hyped over possible blockbuster deals (i.e. Vince CArter, Amare, Ron Artest, Josh Howard, etc.), but, of course, NONE of them happened. Nevertheless, here's what went down before Thrusday's 3 P.M. trade deadline...

In a tree-team deal, Houston traded PG Rafer "Skip To My Lou" Alston to Orlando. Orlando Sent F Brian Cook to Houston, who also got PG Kyle Lowry from Memphis. Memphis received Orlando's first round pick, Mike Wilks, and Adonal Foyle.

What The Trade Means For Orlando:

Orlando is back on. Although they were still a top 3 team in the East without PG Jameer Nelson, who's out for the season with a shoulder injury, not having a strong poing guard would have kept them from beating Boston or Cleveland, whom they would presumably have to go through to get to the NBA Finals. Now that they got Skip, though, that's no longer a concern. Alston is an experienced PG, and has averaged close to 12 points and 6 assists for Houston this year. A true point guard, he can immediately step in and run the team, without disrupting the team's chemistry. With Alston, Orlando has a legit chance of playing all the way until mid-June this season. In terms of immediate impact, Orlando gets props for Trade Of The Season.

What The Trade Means For Memphis:

Already filled with young talent (i.e. O.J. Mayo, Rudy Gay) the Grizzlies have another first-round to work with.

What The Trade Means For Houston:

Nothing as far as I can tell, except they lose their starting PG. It'll be interesting to see if they can develop Kyle Lowry.

Chicago was the most active team over the past few days. The moves they were involved in...

Bulls trade G Larry Hughes to the Knicks for F Tim Thomas, C Jerome James, and G Anthony Roberson.

What The Trade Means For Chicago:

Great move. Not for now, but for the next couple of years. They get rid of Larry Hughes' huge contract, and loosen up the log-jam of guards they've had all season. More importantly, they acquired Tim Thomas and Jerome James, both of whom will come off the books just before the sacred 2010 free agent season. Big ups to Paxson here.

What The Trade Means For NY:

The Knicks get rid of Tim Thomas and ultimate-waste Jerome James. Also, they get Hughes who can fill their shooting guard void. Watch Hughes' numbers, he's about to go insane in that D'Antoni offense.

In another move, the Bulls traded Thabo Sefolosha to Oklahoma City for a 2009 first round draft pick:

What The Move Means For Chicago:

Another nice move that will transfer in a lottery pick in next year's draft. Also, like the Hughes move, this helps break up the congestion in the Bulls rotation.

What The Move Means For OKC:

The Thunder pick up Sefolosha - just 24 - a long, wiry defender, who has tremendous upside.

P.S. KG left the game with a knee injury. He returned to Boston today for an MRI.
