Sweet 16, Part 2!!!

Arizona 64, Louisville 103

The Ville just continues to cruise right along as they won their 13th straight dating back to Feb. 15. They're still yet to play anybody in the Tournament, although Siena did provide them with a little scare. Moreover, except for their 7-point win over Siena in round 2 of the Big Dance, The Cards have won every game by double-digits in the Tournament and in the Big East Tournament. Earl Clark led the way for them with 19 points ad 9 boards.

Syracuse 71, Oklahoma 84

Although Oklahoma was the higher seed, you wouldn't have known it by the number of people (or lack thereof) who gave them no chance to beat the Orangemen. However, they proved the doubters wrong Friday night, crushing  'Cuse, behind 30 points and 14 boards for the freak that is Blake Griffin, and 28 from the SCORCHING Tony Crocker, whose night included 6 treys. The final score doesn't give a true reflection of just how badly the Sooners did 'Cuse. Johnny Flynn led Syracuse with 22. Eric Devendorf and Andy Rautins, the Orangemen's most lethal shooters, combined to go 7-24.

Just How Much Of A Freak Is Blake Griffin???

That's insane.

Gonzaga 77, North Carolina 98

North Carolina ran Gonzaga out of he gym. Period. The Heels shot damn near 60% in the first half, 53% in the game, and went 11-19 from deep. Tyler Hansbrough led Carolina with 24 and 10, while Wayne Ellington and Ty Lawson each had 19. Lawson had 17 in the first half. Can we just deem him, Roy Williams, and the entire Tar Heels program as liars, because clearly, whatever toe injury he had supposedly had hasn't slowed him down one bit.

Kansas 62, Michigan St. 67

Luckily one of Friday's Sweet 16 mathcups was actually competitive. Michigan St. and Kansas was a classic battle of two talented teams with excellent coaches. Kansas was up by as many as 13 in the first half, but couldn't fend off the Michigan St. rally. Michigan St.'s execution was the difference maker as it has been all season for them. Coming out of timeouts, Coach Izzo always had something for the Spartans to run, and they executed time and time again coming down the stretch. Furthermore, as has been the case in the last few weeks, Michigan St. got great play from Kalin Lucas (18, 7 assists, and 4 steals) and Goran Suton (20, 9 boards, and 5 steals) and small contributions from a handful of other guys (i.e. Travis Walton, Chris Allen, Durrell Summer, Draymond Green, Raymar Morgan). The Jayhawks were led by Sherron Collins' 20, ad Cole Aldrich's 17 points, 14 boards, and 4 blocks.

Other NCAA Basketball News...

Anthony Grant To Alabama!!!

Virginia Commonwealth's Anthony Grant has been hired at Alabama.

Grant confirmed to ESPN he has accepted the job on Friday. A formal agreement is expected to be signed later in the night.

The 42-year-old Grant, a former Florida assistant, led VCU to two NCAA tournaments in three seasons. He becomes the most prominent black coach hired at Alabama and the first in the two major sports, football and men's basketball.

..."We have been given the opportunity to create a very special situation for men's basketball at the University of Alabama and we look forward to getting started," said Grant, who played at Dayton. "There's a commitment throughout the athletic department to make sure that we have the resources necessary to compete for championships."

...Grant has been an instant success -- and hot commodity -- as a head coach. After helping Billy Donovan win a national championship with the Gators during a 10-season stay at Florida, he guided VCU to three straight Colonial Athletic Association regular-season titles. His first season was highlighted by a victory over Duke in the NCAA tournament.

Grant's one of my favorite coaches, and certainly one of the best young coaches in the country, so I'm happy he's gotten the chance to lead a high level program, though he did a fantastic job at VCU. But I hope he gets things goin' quickly at 'Bama, because you already know they'll be quick to run him out of town if he doesn't. And for more reasons than just his win/loss record.

NBA Basketball...

10 games on tap in The L Friday night...Highlights: Orlando cruised to a 110-94 win over Milwaukee for their 5 straight win and 11th in their last 13...Ray Allen led Boston to a victory over the Atlanta Hawks, but Big Baby was the real star. Stepping in for the injured KG, Davis had 19 and a career-high, 12 boards. The Hawks, who were one of the hottest teams in the league just a week ago, winning 7 straight, haven't had the same good fortune this week, as the Boston loss was their 3rd in their last 4. In Atlanta's defense, those L's have come to some pretty good teams: Cleveland, San Antonio, and Boston...Cleveland rolled to their 11th straight W, crushing Minnesota 107-85, behind 25, 12 boards, and 7 assists from The King, and retaining their hold on the best record in The L...While Kobe had an off -shooting night (14 points, 5-19),he did have 9 dimes, and Pau had 36 as L.A. beat N.J. 103-95. In doing so, the Lakers clinched the top playoff spot and homecourt advantage out West...N.O. continued their inconsistent, disappointing ways, falling to the Knicks 103-93...Melo had 43 and 10 in Denver's 2 points victory over Dallas.

Slept-On Young Gun Of The Week...3/20-2/27

CHI-TOWN STAND UP!!! Just cause the Pistons suck, doesn't mean Will Bynum shouldn't get some love for goin' hard all week. Although Detroit, who has been without A.I., Rip, and Sheed, is just 1-3 dating back to last Friday, don't point the finger at Will Bynum. After making a name for himself during G-Tech's National Championship run in 2004, Bynum had a stint with Golden St. and spent some time overseas before finally landing in The D. He's gotten inconsistent clock this season, but in the past week in roles as a starter and as a 6th man, Bynum's been good for 19 points and 7 dimes. Big ups to Will Bynum.

iTunes To Hike Prices...

Apple's iTunes music store plans to hike prices of hit songs and some classic tracks on April 7, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Prices of the selected songs will go up to $1.29 from 99 cents, a 30 percent boost.

"Apple has been notifying record lables it will go into effect on [April 7]," according to the Times.

The Times further reports: "The move, part of a new 'variable-pricing' strategy that will also lower the price of selected songs, is an attempt by the music industry to wring more revenue from digital downloads in the battle to offset declining CD sales. Label executives contend the new pricing will allow them to offer packaged downloads of songs that might entice consumers to spend more on music.

"Some music industry veterans are criticizing the 30% hike price, saying the timing is tone deaf because it comes in the midst of a recession and at a time when spending for online music appears to have reached a plateau."

Wow. First swishers, and now the price of music's goin up, too.

BREAKING NEWS: BILLY GILLISPIE OUT AT KENTUCKY

Billy Gillispie is out as coach of Kentucky in his second season at the helm.

School officials, who announced the coach's removal on Friday, had been quiet about Gillispie's job status after the Wildcats tumbled through the second half of the season to finish 22-14, tied for the second-most losses in the program's 106-year history.

Sweet 16 Part 1!!!

Xavier 55, Pitt 60

After being down 37-29 at the half, Pitt came out ready to go in the second half, and made there presence felt on the defensive end, holding the Musketeers to 18 points, 7-29,  and 2-19 from deep. DeJuan Blair played like an absolute BEAST: 10 points, 17 boards, and, most importantly, simply throwing his weight around, and Levance Fields made his case for best PG in the country, with 14 points, 6 dimes, and the biggest shot of the game - a deep 3 with about 50 seconds to go, after putting a Musketeer defender in the mixer Amazingly, the win over Xavier, who got 15 and 14 from B.J. Raymond and Derrick Brown, respectively, was Pitt's first EVER over a top-5 seeded team in the Big Dance.

Check out Levance Fields gettin' it in...

Missouri 102, Memphis 92

Coach Cal said it best: "They beat us at our own game". The Memphis Tigers, winners of 26 straight, had that streak abruptly snapped by
Mizzou, who won 102-92. That Memphis defense that's been so
outstanding and praised by everyone (me included) got torched.
Memphis gave up triple digits for the first time ever under Coach Cal,allowing Mizzou to shoot 53% from the field. Mizzou's defense
was non-existent, too, as Memphis shot 50% from the field. Mizzou,
who led by as many as 24, got 23 from J.T. Tiller, while Memphis got33 from Tyreke Evans.
Villanova 77, Duke 54

'Nova vs. Duke wasn't much of a game at all. The Wildcats had
complete control for the entire game, and their guards and defensive pressure were just too much. The Wildcats churned out a phenomenaldefensive performance, holding the Dukies to 26% shooting, and Jon
Scheyer and Gerald Henderson combined to go 4-32. The Blue Devils, who live by the three, were 5-27. Moreover, it was Duke's worst loss
since the 30-points loss to UNLV in the 1990 National Championship. Duke had no answer for 'Nova, led by Scottie Reynolds' 16, and their
guards' ability to breakdown the defense with lethal penetration.

Purdue 60, UCONN 72

UCONN was just too much for the Boilermakers. Their defense was
outstanding: Hasheem Thabeet, who had 15, 15, and 4 blocks,
altering a countless number of shots as usual, and the Boilermakers
shot just 36% from the field. Stanley Robinson did a great job on
Robbie Hummel, Purdue's lone hot-hand, holding him to just 2 points in the second halfafter he'd put in 15 in the first 20 minutes. The
Huskies got double-digit scoring from 4 guys, including Craig Austrie, who led the way
with 17.

3 blowouts in the League Thursday night...The Lakers brushed off the Pistons, winning 92-77, behind 30, 8 boards, and 7 assists from KB24. Lamar Odom came close to a triple-double in the win as well, contributing 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 dimes...The Bulls stayed hot, beating Miami for their 7th W in their last 8. John Salmons led the way with 27, as the Bulls climbed to the 7th playoff spot. D. Wade of course did his thing, finishing with 31....Portland smashed Phoenix, 129-109, nixing the Suns' 6-game winning streak. Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge both got off, going for 26, 9 boards, and 6 assists, and 29 and 12 boards, respectively.

Current Playoff Standings:

East
  1. Cleveland (58-13)
  2. Orlando (53-18)

NBA Basketball...

11 games In The League Wednesday night. Highlights: San Antonio got a REAL nice W, beating Atlanta
in Atlanta, 102-92. The Hawks were winners of 8 straight at home coming in, but Tony Parker's 42 and 10 assists for the Tim Duncan-less Spurs put an end to that...Superman had yet another double-double, putting in 24 to go along with 21 boards, as the Magic took care of the Celtics, 84-82, and clinched the Southwest Division in the processs. Paul Pierce had 26 Boston, who are just 7-5 this month, though some of that can be attributed to the slew of injuries that have torn through their locker room. And KG who's been back for 4 games now, had just 4 points and played only 17 minutes....Speaking of injuries, the banged up Hornets dropped one to Denver, losing 101-88. Both Tyson Chandler and Peja Stojakovic were out, as they have been for chunks of the season thus far, as CP3 led the way for N.O. with 19 points and 13 assists. Melo had 29....The Cavs nothced their 58th W and improved to 33-1 at The Q. Wow.

KiD CuDi Speaks On His Relationship With Wale...

After I saw that video, Wale and I got into an intense screaming match on the phone. But, that's what friends do. We yelled at each other, and after all the yelling was over we spoke and then it was basically down to "Yo man, come on, you know me, I know you, you my nigga." If you felt that way, just tell me. But he had been trying to reach out and granted, I felt like I should of reached out to him sooner. Every time I would try to talk to him, it was on the go. Also, I don't want to get into sensitive deep conversations about stuff that's just not important. You know, if somebody feels a certain way about me and I feel like they're misunderstanding me, I don't need to explain myself. I just try to shy away from it and just pretend like it never happened, and try to rekindle the friendship and let him know that its not like that.

NBA Basketball...

The two teams NO Western Conference team wants to play faced off on a rare NBA on TNT Tuesday matchup: Utah and Houston. Holding the Rockets to just 34% from the field, Utah got 99-86 W, behind 19 and 12 from Deron Williams. Both teams had 5 guys finish in double digits.

Both Utah and Houston are arguably the hottest teams in the League right now. Including Tuesday night, Utah's won 15 of their last 18, while the Rockets are winners of 16 of their last 21, and both teams boast excellent home records. What makes both teams so dangerous is their balance. Although neither has that game-changing player who can take over and knock teams out, they can't be knocked out either.

They're just too deep, and solid all-around. Inside, both teams boast bigs who can bang with anybody - the Rockets: Yao & Luis Scola. The Jazz: Mehmet Okur & Carlos Boozer. Undersized forwards who play their ass off - Rockets: Chuck Hayes & Carl Landry. Jazz: Paul Millsap. Versatile wings that do some of everything, and most importantly, DEFEND - Rockets: Artest & Shane Battier. Jazz: Ronnie Brewer & AK47. White boys with burners - Rockets. Brent Barry. Jazz: Kyle Korver. And solid (stellar in the case of Utah with D. Will) guard play - Rockets: Aaron Brooks, Von Wafer, & Kyle Lowry. Jazz: D. Will, CJ Miles, & Brevin Knight.

After fighting through injuries to damn near every player on their respective roters, Houston and Utah are both as healthy and stable as they've been all season. Unfortunately, both teams' strong points seem to serve as their downfall: the lack of a player who can single-handedly take a game over. But if they can both hang in there with teams down the stretch, and continue to get things done efficiently by committee, both teams have a legitimate shot to beat anybody out West in a 7-game series.

"I grew up in New York City: Harlem, New York. I played ball for probably two of the biggest amateur basketball organizations in the city. One being the Gauchos, the other being the Riverside Hawks. I went to Manhattan Center High School. I never graduated, but I came out of high school Top 25 in the country in the class of 1994. I ended up going to a junior college called Navarro Junior College in Texas, which is in between Dallas and Waco. I tore my hamstring when I was there, and I redshirted my first year. And when I came back home, I ended up getting back into the music business. I didn't get a chance to get back into sports because music started taking off for me. That's kinda how my basketball career went."

As a result of his accolades as a ball player, Cam also noted major universities were looking into him as a prospect including USC and Georgetown. One of his basketball teammates ended up being an important piece to his music industry success.
