NCAA Basketball...4 Of Top 25 Go Down Hard

Four of the Top 25 teams got blown out of the water Wednesday: #3 Duke, #6 Wake, and #19 Minnesota. Duke went down to #10 Clemson 74-47 at Littlejohn Coliseum. Quite simply the Tigers pressd the shit out of the Blue Devils, held them to 30% from the field, and, by the end, the Dukies had quit. The win snapped a 22 games losing streak Clemson had against Duke dating back to 1996. Trevor Booker led Clemson with 21 and 8 rebounds, while Duke got 16 from Gerald Henderson.

Wake Forest got handled, as well. Like Duke, the Demon Deacons got D'd up. They fell to Miami, 79-52, as they lost their second consecutive game, and as Hurricanes snapped their own three game losing streak. The Hurricanes "zone-boned" Wake, holding them to season-lows of 32% from the field and 52 points, and 3-20 from beyond  the arc. Jack McClinton led the way for the Hurricanes with 32.

#19 Minnesota got the same treatment they gave Illinois just a few days ago when they held the Illini to 36 points. The Gophers lost to #14 Michigan St. 76-47. The Spartans held Minnesota to 29% shooting. Wow. But what this win should really be attributed to is the coaching ability of Tom Izzo. The Spartans had lost two straight games at home coming into today - Northwestern Jan. 21 and Penn St. Sunday. The game Sunday was Penn St. first ever win at MSU. What happened between now and then? The Spartans probably had  some brutal practices to get prepared for Wednesday, Coach Izzo went off on the guys, got them fired up, and the results - a 29 point win -show why he's one of the great motivators and coaches in the game.

#17 Texas also fell victim tonight.
