The Magic went to the Staples Center and beat the Lakers last night, 109-103. Dwight "Superman" Howard had 25 and 20 for the Magic, who are now 32-8. It was Howard's fourth game this season with a "double double-double" - 20+ points, 20+ boards. In addition, Jameer Nelson had 28, 8 assists, and 6 boards. Even despite a triple-double from Kobe, the Magic pulled out a victory.
The growing dominance of Dwight Howard, who leads all all-star voting, along with the emergence of Jameer Nelson have the Magic sitting atop the Eastern Conference, and leading the NBA in the win category. Earlier this week the Magic set a new NBA record for 3 pointers made in a game with 23. Nelson's developed into one of the best point guards in the East, stepping his scoring average up 7 points this season. Coach Stan Van Gundy's got this team playing extremely well, combining the League's 7 best offense - 102 points per game - with the 5th best defense - giving up just 94 points a night. The Magic have lost just once in the New Year, and already have two victories apiece over two of the West's top 3 teams - the Lakers and Spurs.
