Just two Top 25 games tonight. Louisville finally looked good, after underachieving and looking out of it for much of the season thus far. Louisville's Terrence Williams had a near triple-double - 24 points, 16 boards, and 8 assists - as the #20 Cardinals beat #13 Notre Dame in overtime 87-73. Luke Harongody led the Irish with 26, but was scoreless in OT, and the Irish were outscored 16-2 in the extra period. Freshman forward Samardo Samuels had 18, 6, and 4 blocks, and Earl Clark had 15 points and 10 boards for the Cardinals.
Coming into the season, I, and I'm sure many others, had high expectations for the Cardinals, who are loaded with talent. But they often struggled this season, making not just physical errors, but, more importantly, mental. Hopefully today was the game they needed to right their ship.
In the other Top 25 game, #5 Oklahoma defeated #11 Texas, in a Big 12 showdown, 78-63. Blake Griffin had a solid 20 and 10 for the Sooners, and A.J. Abrams supplied Texas with 22 points. I really like Texas, but every offensive possession seemed to be a struggle, something that can be contributed to their lack of a "true" point guard. They have several talented players, but someone must step up for Longhorns at the point, because it's too much to ask A.J. Abrams to simply hit jumpers in people's play after play.
Blake Griffin could be the potential #1 pick in the 2009 draft. Here's Coach Bobby Knight's take on him...
