Dunk Of The Week...

Johnny Flynn Takes A Sh** On Mike Rosario...

NCAA Tournament 2009 Day 4

Top Performers:
  • Sherron Collins - Kansas: 25 and 7 boards.
  • Cole Aldrich - Kansas: 13 points, 20 boards, and 10 blocks.
  • Nic Wise - Arizona: 21 points and assists.
  • Jerel McNeal - Marquette: 30 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists.
  • Wes Matthews - Marquette: 24 points and 7 rebounds.
  • Sam Young - Pitt: 32 points and 8 boards.
  • Terrence Williams - Louisville: 24 points, 15 boards.
Things We Learned:

  • The Big East is ridiculous. 5 teams in the Sweet 16.
  • Chi-Town guards are the illest (i.e. Jeremy Pargo, Jerel McNeal, Sherron Collins)
  • Travis Walton personifies senior leadership (scored 18, career-high vs. USC).
  • James Harden may want to stay another year just to redeem himself from this year's dismal Tourney performance. His Tournament: 2 games. 3-18. 19 points.
  • Can't help but feel for Marquette, particularly seniors Dominic James and Lazar Hayward. James returned from a 6-game absence due to a foot-injury, but was clearly nowhere near 100%. He was constantly taken advantage on defense, and did not score. Hayward stepped over the endline to, ending Marquette's chances.

NBA Basketball...

A handful of NBA games on deck Sunday. Highlights: D. Wade continues his monster April, hitting the Pistons with 39 and 6 assists in the Heat's W...If Wade got off, you know LBJ did, too. What James did: 30, 11 boards, and 8 assists, on the way to a Cavs win over N.J....The Rockets just keep rolling. They beat San Antonio, 87-85, behind Ron Artest's 24, to improve to 10-3 in March, and 16-5 since T-Mac hung it up for the season. And like that, they're atop the Southwest Division, and the 2-seed in the West. Wow. Tuesday's game at Utah will be a good one...CP3 had 27, 8, and 8 in the Hornets victory over Golden St....KD dropped 30 on Minnesota to go along with 8 boards and 5 assists.

Peep some '08-'09 Pre-game Rituals...

IHSA State Tournament...

After two years of great promise and heightened expectations, the Dolphins strode mightily and triumphantly to their version of the mountaintop.

The Dolphins played off superior depth and outstanding contributions from every player who stepped onto the court in their 69-66 victory over Waukegan for the Class 4A state championship Saturday night at Carver Arena.

“There have been a lot of haters out there, people questioning us, saying bad things about us, but in the end, we did what we had to do,” Young junior guard Ahmad Starks.

Eight of the nine Dolphins who played scored at least two points.

Playing against accusations of being a glorified AAU team that played a national schedule that stretched across seven different states, Young saved the best for last.

Stanford Brown, a 6-8 senior, scored 14 points to back up Marcus Jordan’s team-best 19 points. Brown shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor.

“People were wondering why we had to travel the country, why did Whitney Young have to play Hawaii or California, but it prepared us for the state tournament,” Brown said.

3A Final...
Champaign Centennial 61, Oswego 59

North Lawndale College Prep played 33 games in the same uniforms this season. There was never a problem with them until Friday at the Class 3A state semifinals.

Before the game against Champaign Centennial, Illinois High School Association basketball director Kurt Gibson directed the referees to assess a technical foul against the Phoenix for a uniform violation.

According to Gibson, the black stripe underneath the arm was too wide. The stripe is only allowed to stretch four inches across.

"Their stripe infringes on the front and the backside of the uniform," he said.

Gibson told the Peoria Journal Star about four conversations he had with North Lawndale coach Lewis Thorpe about the uniform violation.

Thorpe said he had not been notified before Friday.

"We wore these uniforms all year," Thorpe said. "I don't understand why this was not brought up before today."

North Lawndale ended up losing the game by one point.

"It was in our heads during the game," North Lawndale guard Terry Johnson said. "I think it rattled us. Got us down and our confidence down."

Because of the technical, Thorpe had to remain seated during the game.

"How was he supposed to coach if he can't get up and instruct the kids?" North Lawndale assistant coach Terry Johnson said. "And I know it bothered the team. Anything at state that upsets your routine is a problem. That's why we eat at the same places and do the same things every time we are here."

According to Johnson, the team offered to wear their road uniforms, but Gibson said they were too colorful.

"This is the most painful loss I've had since I've been in coaching," Thorpe said.

Clearly this is some bullshit.

NBA Basketball...

With the Tournament poppin off, The League's on the backburner...Highlights, though: Cleveland rolled to their 8th straight W, beating a hot Atlanta Hawks team, 102-96, behind 24 from Mo WIlliam, and 22, 7, and 5 boards from LBJ. The Lakers have been winning too, but the Cavs have overtaken them as the best team in The L right now. Understand this: They've got the best record in the league, which means home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. And they're 32-1 at the Q...The Lakers continued to cruise, with a 117-109 win over the Bulls, but so did KB24's shooting slump. Though he led the way for L.A. with 28, 7 assists, and 5 steals, he was just 10-25 from the field, and is 24-65 in his past 3 outings...Every Magic starter hit double digits as they got their 8th W in their last 10.

Props to John Salmons. The Bulls have won 3 of their last 4, including games over N.O. and Boston, and Salmons has been putting in major work. Including his 30 vs. L.A., he's averaging, 28 in that span, in addition to shooting 63%.
