NCAA Basketball...

17 Top 25 Games Saturday....Here's what you need to know:

  • Barring a major injury or complete collapse, #1 UCONN, playing the way they have been, will be in a position to cut down the nets in March. As long as Hasheem Thabeet continues to play the way he has (17 points, 12 rebounds, 6 blocks Saturday vs. Michigan), there's no way they'll lose.
  • Miami is a very good team, and scoring machine Jack McClinton (34 Saturday vs. Duke, 32 Wednesday vs. Wake) is capable of carrying them to the Tournament on his back. Miami's got quality wins over Kentucky and Flordia St., a huge win over Wake Forest, and took Duke down to the wire. Look out for their showdown with North Carolina next Sat.
  • Memphis stepped up in a major way against Gonzaga to get their biggest win of the season so far. Since dropping out of the top 25 during non-conference play after losses to Xavier, Georgetown , and Syracuse, the Tigers have started their annual steamroll of Conference USA competition. With such a weak conference, the game against Gonzaga was huge because it could possibly be the last tournament-caliber team they play before March. And they didn't disappoint, winning 68-50, getting 22 from Tyreke Evans, and holding the Zags to 36% shooting.
  • 'Nova's looking serious right about now. They killed Syracuse Saturday, 102-87, behind 31 and 10 boards from Dante Cunningham, to win their fifth straight. That streak includes wins over Pitt, Providence, and Cincinnati. Monday's game against Marquette will be a good one.
  • Kansas is another team that's been rolling under the radar. They've won 8 straight.
  • Dejaun Blair is a MONSTER. Saturday vs. DePaul: 32 points, 14 boards.
Teams looking shaky: Texas, who've lost 3 straight. Georgetown, Syracuse, and Notre Dame are all doing their best to play themselves out of the Big Dance. Lucky for them, they play in the Big East, so they've got plenty of chances to pick up marquee wins.

Big ups to Evan Turner, who continues to make his case for Big Ten POY. Saturday vs. Minnesota: 18 points and 10 boards in 40 minutes of action.
