NBA Basketball...

Quite a few games in The L on Tuesday, but nothing too groundbreaking. Highlights: The Knicks lost their 6th straight game. How about this: the Knicks have given up 100+ points in their last 8 games, and in the past 8 days have been hit with 61 by Kobe, 52 by 'Bron, and gave up 144 points in a loss to Golden State....LeBron had 47 in the Cavs' los to Indy...Kevin Durant had 31 and 10, scoring 30+ for the 5th consecutive game...The Lakers and Spurs both got W's, and are tied for a league-best record in the New Year at 15-4. I'd say they're the two best teams in The League right now, and contributions from players other than their "stars" have been a major reason why. Tuesday for L.A.: Lamar Odom - 18 boards. Pau Gasol - 22 and 14. Trevor Ariza, Jordan Farmar, and Sasha Vujacic - 9 points apiece.  For San Antonio: Matt Bonner - 22 points in 25 minutes. Roger Mason - 14 points....MJ, Scottie, and othes were in the United Center last night as the Bulls honored the legendary Johnny "Red" Kerr.

Congrats To Kobe, who had 34 points and 7 boards, and became the youngest player to reach 23,000 points. Kobe, 30 years 171 days old, passed Wilt Chamberlain, who hit the mark 30 years 176 days.

Mo Williams FINALLY got in the All-Star game. He'll be replacing Chris Bosh. It's still bullshit, though.

J.R. Smith will be replacing Rudy Gay in the Slam Dunk Contest. Gay has a strained hip.

H-O-R-S-E Contestants....Joe Johnson, Kevin Durant, and O.J. Mayo

The contest will take place outdoors at the NBA's All-Star Block Party on Saturday in Phoenix before TNT televises the All-Star Saturday night festivities.

If a player makes a shot in H-O-R-S-E, the next competitor must make the same shot or receive a letter. A player gets an 'H' for his first miss and is eliminated once he has all five letters of the word.

Players will have 24 seconds to execute their shots, and an NBA referee will rule if they're done properly. Dunking won't be allowed.

Three of my favorite young'ns. This event should be sick. Thinks about the range all of these guys have. And they'll be mic'd up, so we can hear all the shit-talking. I'm geeked.

NCAA Basketball...Huge W For 'Nova

We've known Villanova's good all season, but they were yet to have that marquee win that showcased just how good they were. After Tuesday night's performance against Marquette, though, we officially know. 'Nova's a problem. The Wildcats banged the Golden Eagles, 102-84. Scottie Reynolds, who's been up and down this season scoring-wise, stepped up big time, scoring 27 points, including 15 from behind the arc. The Wildcats also got 21 from Corey Fisher.

Both teams area now 20-4, but moving in opposite directions. Marquette's amidst a two-game losing streak, while Villanova's turned into one of the hottest teams in the country, winning 6 straight, including victories over Pitt, at Providence, and over Syracuse. If 'Nova can keep this play up, they can be a real threat come March. They've got a bevy of solid guards, including Reynolds, Corey Fisher, Corey Stokes, Reggie Redding, and Dwayne Anderson, and have gotten great, steady play from big man Dante Cunningham. In addition, the Wildcats have put together a strong body of work. Their four losses: Texas by 9. At Marquette, by 5. Louisville by 1. And at UCONN, by 6. Not too shabby.

Congrats to Jerel McNeal, who scored 23 points, and passed George Thompson to become Marquette's all-time leading scorer. He has 1,776 points.

As some of you may know, Kobe started this season wearing the Nike Hyperdunk. However, after concerns about the durability and comfortability of the sole of the Hyperdunks, KB24 began wearing the Nike Hyperdunk "Hybrid". The shoe's upper is the same as the standard Hyperdunk, but the sole of the shoe is that of the Nike Zoom Kobe IV. Below is the "Away" colorway...

THE COLDEST AIR FORCE 1's YOU'VE EVER SEEN!!!

"The Mayor" (above), owner of one of the dopest sneaker collections (i.e. 1000+ pairs of Air Force 1's), often designs Nike iD Air Force 1's. Here's his three latest models...

Nike Air Force 1 Bespoke - Infared/Teal...

Let’s start with the sole, where we can see how Mayor uses the clear, icy treatment on the mid-sole with infrared stitching and keeps the out-sole colored solidly in teal.  Moving on to the upper, you can see the infrared useage on the front and mid-panels along with the heel-tab.  Teal accents the entire upper in the stitching as well as on the entire Swoosh, laces and “Nike Air” on the back.  Topping it all off is metallic silver on the back panel, which adds a fresh flavor to the entire shoe.
Nike Air Force 1 Bespoke - Red Metallic...

Once again, Mayor uses a dope, icy mid-sole with a solid, red bottom and red stitching.  The upper is decked out in a metallic red material making this look like an extra fresh, extra tasty Valentine’s day candy.  Lightening up the metallic red is a metallic silver Swoosh and metallic silver heel-tab.
Nike Air Force 1 Bespoke - Reverse Denim...

On the upper denim is used to construct everything but the Swoosh, which is made up of a yellow cloth material.  The denim on this AF1, however, doesn’t look like it typically does when applied to most sneakers and that is because the denim seen here is reverse denim (which is basically what your jeans would look like if you turned them inside out).  Regular denim is used on the heel tab and surrounds the “Nike Air”, which is embroidered in yellow to match the out-sole, Swoosh and Laces. Giving the shoe classic look is light brown, premium leather inner, which allows this AF1 to really bring a fresh and novel style to the table.
If you actually think any of these can be copped in stores you's a damn fool. But you can have them made at the NY Nike Sportswear Store:

Chris Brown x Rihanna Update...

As rumors circulate and new information is slowly being revealed about the recent unfortunate events surrounding R&B singers Chris Brown and girlfriend Rihanna, both artists are already feeling the backlash.

After leaving Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy bash at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, 19 year-old Brown reportedly got into a physical altercation that left a female victim with visible bruises and cuts to her face. Later on, police confirmed that the victim was indeed pop singer, Rihanna. Both artists, who were scheduled to perform that night at the Grammy Awards, bowed out of the night’s events. Brown turned himself in later on that evening and was released hours later on $50,000 bail. After being arrested and facing charges of making criminal threats, Brown has hired criminal attorney Mark Geragos who is most known for defending Pop star Michael Jackson and actress Winona Ryder.

After Brown was booked and released on bail following the incident, the Wrigley Corporation released the following statement.

"Wrigley is concerned by the serious allegations made against Chris Brown," stated the Doublemint owner, who funded Brown's advertisement/hit single "Forever". "We believe Mr. Brown should be afforded the same due process as any citizen. However, we have made the decision to suspend the current advertising featuring Brown and any related marketing communications until the matter is resolved."

The advertisers behind the Milk Mustache campaign expressed similar concern and stating they are "taking the allegations against Chris Brown very seriously."

Meanwhile, NBA representatives confirm Brown has withdrawn from all of this year's scheduled events at the NBA All-Star Weekend in Phoenix. Rihanna has also postponed Friday's sold-out concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as well.

After both TMZ.com and the Los Angeles Times quoted unnamed sources stating Rihanna was the victim of a horrific attack, most likely by Brown, a family member has stepped forward. Yesterday, Rihanna's grandmother, Clara Brathwaite, told Barbados' leading newspaper The Daily Nation, "I don't want people to worry. Rihanna is fine and she is doing well."

Brown is scheduled to appear in court on March 5.

NCAA Basketball...WAKE UP!!!

Two Top 25 Games: #4 Piit handled West virginia, 70-59, and #19 Missouri beat #17 Kansas 62-60, behind a jumper from Zaire Taylor with 1.3 seconds to go.

I like to think I'm up on all my college hoops, but where the hell did Missouri come from? Unranked last week, they enter the Top 25 this week - not at the bottom - but they jumped straight to #17 in the AP poll, and #19 in the ESPN poll. Wins last week over Texas and Baylor, and a 21-4 record will do that, though. Plus, two of those losses are to Illinois and Xavier, both tournament-bound teams. THe Tigers also boast one of the best players you've never heard of: DeMarre Carroll. The senior forward is averaging 17 points and 4 boards this season, ad led Mizzou with 22 and 7 in their victory over Kansas. Mizzou, who play the "fastest 40 minutes" of basketball, looks legit.

IN The L...

Condolences To Al Jefferson...

Al Jefferson, the highly underrated, all-star snubbed center for the Minnesota Timberwolves is out for the season after tearing his ACL Sunday. He was averaging 23 points - 7th in The League - and nearly 11 boards - 6th in The League. Jefferson was 5th in doubles-doubles and one of just three guys averaging 20 and 10. Hate to see this happen to a guy having such a great year.

Charles Barkley To Return To Booth After All-Star Break

Charles Barkley will return to the TNT network as an NBA analyst soon after its airing of the All-Star Game on Sunday, the Sports Business Journal has reported.

Barkley, who faces a drunken-driving charge after a Dec. 31 arrest, took a leave of absence last month. Test results revealed Barkley had a blood-alcohol level at .149, nearly twice the legal limit of .08 in Arizona.

The leave was for a minimum of several weeks, and Turner spokesman Jeff Pomeroy confirmed Monday that it will continue through All-Star weekend, when TNT usually draws some of its best ratings.

"It wasn't a hard decision for me to give him some time off to get his legal matters straight and to get his personal life in order," Turner Sports president David Levy said, according to the report. "The question is, when is the right time to bring him back? There is no magic answer to that. It's just a gut feel."

While waiting for results of the blood test, TNT considered suspending Barkley if the results showed his blood-alcohol content was over the legal limit, a source told ESPN.com.

The network has not chosen a specific date for his return to its "Inside the NBA" studio show, the Sports Business Journal reported, and plans are forthcoming as to how Barkley will address the incident.

"We haven't really thought about it, but I'm sure Charles will have something to say," Levy said. "What's really nice is that he's had so much support from a lot of people in this challenging time for him. He's humbled a little bit."

I wish he'd be back for All-Star weekend, but I'm just glad to know he's coming returning soon.
