MLK Day

How ironic - the day after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, America will see it's first Black president. Everything's come full circle.

Some say that a prophet is a prophet everywhere except in his or her own home.

And some even believe that prophets died out during biblical times.

But you need look no further than the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to know the prophecy that he made 46 years ago has come to pass.

"This is our hope. This is the faith," King said in his famous "I Have A Dream" speech.

"With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood."

Obama's political persona is often compared to that of Abraham Lincoln, partially because both hail from the state of Illinois and, like Lincoln, Obama is taking the reins of a government that is in crisis.

Yet, it can't be coincidence that Obama will become the first African-American president of the United States the day after the nation celebrates the birth of Dr. King.

NFL Playoffs...

Cardinals Trump Eagles, Win 32-25...

As I watched the first half, I wondered to myself: "Did the Eagles watch ANY tape of the Arizona Cardinals"? Because, if they had, surely they would recognize that Larry Fitzgerald is the best receiver in the league, and needs to be shut down. However, Fitzgerald ran all over the Eagles, and  caught three touchdowns in the first half.

The Cardinals went into half-time up 24-6. McNabb and the Eagles finally got the trains in the track, and scored 19 unanswered points to go 25-24, a lead they carried into the fourth quarter. The Eagles seemed to have taken complete control over the game, however, a late-game drive spearheaded by Kurt Warner put the Cardinals up 32-25 - the game's final score. McNabb had a rough first half, but finished the game 28/47, with 375 yards, 3 TD's and an interception. Brian Westbrook had just 45 rushing yards. Warner played flawlessly, finishing 21/28, with 279 yards and 4 TD's. No turnovers.

Of course, it helps when you have the above-human Larry Fitzgerald, who had 9 receptions for 152 yards in addition to his aforementioned 3 first half TD's. They'll meet the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl.

Steelers Stifle Ravens, Win 23-14...

Well, Baltimore Raven rookie QB Joe Flacco's inexperience finally caught up with him. While he's been praised for his steady play all year - and rightfully so - the Steelers forced the young QB into throwing 3 interceptions, including one by Troy Polamalu, which he took back 40 yards for a touchdown. In addition, the Steelers forced 3 Ravens fumbles, though two were recovered by Baltimore.

Polamalu's score, along with 65-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Santonio Holmes, and 3 Jeff Reed field goals were enough to finish the Ravens. Baltimore was able to get two scores from Willis McGahee, who ran for 60 yards. McGahee had to be carted off the field after a brutal collision with Pittburgh safety Ryan Clark in the 4th quarter. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 255 yards, and one TD. It was the 3rd time Pittsburgh has beaten Baltimore this season. They'll face off against the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII.

The Power Of Sports....

I think that's pretty self-explanatory.

Hall of Fame coach John Thompson calls it "the greatest thing to happen to African-Americans since the Emancipation Proclamation," and there's no way he's going to miss it.

"It hasn't been able to seep in," the longtime Georgetown college basketball coach told The Associated Press. "I will have tears in my eyes when that boy raises his hand."

From Tiger Woods to Muhammad Ali, Dave Winfield to Dikembe Mutumbo, a sports world that has paid more attention to politics than usual the last few months wants to be part of the party when Barack Obama is inaugurated as the nation's first black president on Tuesday.

NBA Basketball...

Dwayne Wade had 32 and 10 assists for Miami, who beat Oklahoma City 104-94. Although they lost, props must go to Kevin Durant, who had 31 points, 6 boards, and 5 assists. KD has been putting in work in '09; he had 32, 6, and 6 in a win against Detroit on Friday. Durant has stepped his game up in the New Year, and is filling up the stat sheet in more than just the points category. In January, Durant's averaging 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists per contest - all season high's. Moreover, he's doing it efficiently, shooting 50% from the field, 45% from 3, and 90% from the charity stripe. Dating back to Dec. 31, Durant's has led the Thunder to a 5-5 record, including wins over Detroit and Utah. While that may not impress some, it's a big step for a team that was 3-32 before New Year's Eve.

Minnesota lost their second game of the season, falling to Northwestern at Welsh-Ryan Arena, 74-65. The Wildcats 1-3-1 zone stifled the Gophers, who had 19 turnovers. Craig Moore led Northwestern in the upset with 22.

LEBRON JAMES TO THE CLEVELAND BROWNS!!!

This is the continuation of the mysterious LeBron commercial that's been running for a couple weeks.

More LeBron news....

Love it or hate it, with the rising superstar status of LeBron james, his latest signature shoe has been subject to a lot of special attention from the folks over at Nike Basketball.  The Nike Zoom LeBron VI has been styled and released in almost every sort of variety as one could imagine, but it does not seem to be stopping anytime soon.  In November of 2008, we saw the Nike Zoom LeBron VI "Big Apple" , which was featured in a red patent leather design that was supposed to represent the nickname of NYC.

While there is no official information available yet, rumors have surfaced regarding a 2nd round to a New York City edition of the Nike Zoom LeBron VI, this time with the theme of a taxi cab.  Only one photo has been made available, the shoe is outfitted in a black/yellow-silver colorway with sime dope details including a metallic silver Swoosh and yellow patent leather around the toebox.  Like we said earlier, there is no official release info available for this shoe as of now, but you might expect to see this on LeBron’s feet during his next appearance at Madison Square Garden on February 4th.

LeBron just keeps coming with the VI's. And there's yet to be a bad colorway. So sick.

Wow.

It was Saturday, so of course a heavy night in the NCAA. Shouts out to Shump. He had 22 points, 6 boards, 4 dimes, and 4 steals for G-Tech, in their 76-71 OT loss to N.C. State. Also, shout out to Evan from OSU, who led the Buckeyes to an upset win over Michigan in Ann Arbor. He put in 19, to go along with 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Only one undefeated team left in the nation - Wake Forest. They took out Clemson, who was also undefeated, and Louisville beat Pitt, who was also undefeated coming into the day. Wake's gotta be #1 next week.

Big ups to 'Cuse, who HANDLED Notre Dame, and could very well be the best in the Big East. Monday's showdown against Pitt will be a hell of a game.
